The Orum House

Emma (Schmidt) Orum was the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Rink) Schmidt.  The Schmidt's moved to Edgewater in 1891 and built a home at West 22nd and Ames Street.  The home was located on a fifty acre farm tract and here was born Emma on May 7th, 1893 and her brother Louis in 1894.

 

Emma moved to the Orum House in 1910 and resided here until her death on December 28, 1980.  Many of the furnishings in the home are original to the time that Emma lived here.

 

 The Orum House is closed at this time for repairs.

Manhattan Beach Steam Locomotive and Tender No. 999 No on Display!

This display, located in the History Room at City Hall.   The steam locomotive and tender No. 999 which was used to ferry around Manhattan Beach amusement park visitors from 1907 to 1910.  The City received this display on loan from the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club.  It is one of the few remaining historical artifacts from Manhattan Beach, the amusement park that was located on the northwest side of Sloan's Lake.

The large room on the 2nd floor at City Hall  is the repository for many historical photographs and displays.

This display is open from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday
