Trees

 

Illegal Trees

Edgewater has a list of trees that CAN NOT be planted in the City. That list includes:

(1) Any cotton bearing cottonwood tree (Gene Populus).
(2) Any boxelder tree (Acer Negundo).

 

Approved Trees

Edgewater has a list of pre-approved trees that can be planted in the City without prior approval. These were selected because they do little damage to sidewalks and foundations and have the ability to survive in our City's environment.

Written approval of the Tree Commission is required prior to planting any other types. For more information contact the Parks & Recreation department or City Clerk's office at City Hall.

 

Obstructions Caused By Trees

No large tree shall be planted closer than 25 feet to any street corner, no medium tree within 15 feet. No tree shall be planted closer than 10 feet to any fire hydrant.

Every owner with a tree overhanging any sidewalk, street, or alley shall prune the branches so the branches do not obstruct the view of any street, and so that there shall be a clear space of 8 feet above the surface of the sidewalk.

 

Tree Trimmings and Leaf Collection

Tree branches must be tied into bundles and placed in the alley, or other collection place, normally designated for your trash. The bundles must not to exceed 75 pounds in weight or 4 feet in length or 18 inches in diameter.

Leaves must be placed in plastic bags no larger than the 35 gallon size and no heavier than 75 pounds in weight and placed in the alley, or other collection place, normally designated for your trash.

 

WARNING

An Arborist's license and bond are required for any person or firm prior to doing any business trimming, treating, or removing of trees in the City. An application for the license is available in the Building Department at City Hall.

 

Tree Limb Collection

The City collects and disposes of tree branches and limbs which are knocked down during major storms. Please place your downed limbs and branches ADJACENT TO THE CURB IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE. If you need assistance or have questions, please call City Hall.

 

Tree Inspection Services
