Utility Billing

The City Clerk’s office performs all of the functions of Utility Billing for the City. The City bills out for Water, Sewer and Trash. The City bills out on a quarterly basis and there are approximately 200 residents in Edgewater that are not billed for sewer. The East Jefferson Sanitation District has an area that they provide sewer service in the City. The breakdown of your Utility Bill is as follows:

Water

Every 5/8" tap (residential tap) is billed for the amount of gallons of water that customers consume or run through the meter. The cost is $3.13 per thousand gallons of water for in town residents and $3.26 for out of town residents. Every quarter there is also an $11.00 service charge. This fee is for the maintenance of the line for future repairs.

Sewer

Every 5/8" tap is billed for the amount of gallons of water that the customers consume for the first quarter of every year. The charge is $2.38 per thousand gallons of water for in town residents. The City does not service any out of town sewer users. After they are assessed the amount for first quarter, the amount stays constant for the following three quarters. For example: If a customer used 15,000 gallons of water during the 1st quarter of the year, they would be assessed $2.38 per thousand gallons which would amount to $35.70. This amount would then stay the same for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter. There is also a quarterly service charge of $13.20 for the maintenance fee of the sewer lines for future repair.

Trash

The current trash rates are $37.50 per quarter per single family resident. The trash is picked up one time per week and a total of four 35 gallon cans with lids are allowed. All trash must be covered or sacked in garbage bags. Tree limbs are accepted if bundled and no more than 4 feet in length. It is not a requirement that you use City trash but must have a provider.

The Utility Bills are billed the 3rd week following the end of each quarter.
