The City of Edgewater municipal elections are conducted every two (2) years, in odd-numbered years, on the first Tuesday in November. This election is coordinated with the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder's Office. The mayor is elected to a two-year term and the councilors are elected to a four-year term.Terms of office begin at the first regular City Council meeting following certification of election results. The next election will be held on November 5, 2013.

To be eligible to hold an elected office in the City of Edgewater, a person must be at the time of his or her nomination: (1) a citizen of the United States; (2) at least twenty-three (23) years of age; and (3) a registered elector; additionally, such person must have resided within the City for one year immediately preceding the election and have no convictions for embezzlement, bribery, solicitation of bribery, perjury, subornation of perjury, or any offense involving fraud.
A person who holds a position as a City board or commission member, or is a member of the Edgewater Fire Department in an elective rank above that of firefighter, or is an officer or employee of the City, shall be deemed to have resigned such position upon taking office as Council Member or Mayor.
