The City of Edgewater
has several volunteer Boards and Commissions that provide a very valuable
service to the City. The City knows that without these volunteers, these
functions would be an impossible task for the Council and staff. Listed below
is information on all of the Boards and Commissions that Edgewater currently
has. If you are interested in serving on any of these Boards or Commissions,
please obtain an application from the City Clerk’s office at 2401
Sheridan Blvd or fill out the application below.
All openings are posted in the required posting places of the City. All
volunteers must be citizens of the community and registered voters.

Charter Boards and Commissions

Election
Commission
Length of Term: 4 Years
Number of Members: Two plus the
City Clerk
Meetings: After every election
for canvas of the votes
This commission meets to canvas the
votes after every regular or special election. The commission may also serve
in the capacity of making recommendations to the City Council regarding any
election law changes that may effect the municipality.

Personnel
Board
Length of Term: 3 Years
Number of Members: Three (One is
selected by the Mayor, One by City Council and One by the Employees)
Meetings: When required
This Board serves in the capacity
of reviewing and updating the personnel polices for City employees and acts
as a grievance board in accordance with the personnel policies.

Planning and Zoning
Commission
Length of Term: 5 Years
Number of Members: Five
Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of Every
Month
This Commission reviews all site
development plans, re-zoning requests, and any other types of changes that
would required a change of the City’s Code. Recommendations are made to the
City Council for final approval of all changes.

of Adjustment and Appeals Board
Length of Term: 3 Years
Number of Members: Five with one
alternate
Meetings: As Posted
This Board reviews requests for
variances that are within the limits of the City’s Zoning Code.

Parks
and Recreation Board
Length of Term: 3 Years
Number of Members: Four with
Alternate
Meetings: 2nd and 4th Monday
This is an advisory board that
works with the Parks and Recreation Director regarding future and ongoing
programs in Parks and Recreation.

Additional Boards and Commissions

|
Historic,
Arts and Landmark Preservation Commission
This commission shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Mayor. Two
(2) of the members shall serve terms of five (5) years and three (3) members
shall serve terms of four (4) years. Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday
of the month.
The commission shall make
recommendations to the city council regarding maintenance and preservation of
designated landmarks.

Special Boards and Commissions

Edgewater
Liquor Licensing Authority
The City Council serves as the
Edgewater Liquor Licensing Authority. The Authority is responsible for approval
or denial of all liquor licenses within the City limits.

Edgewater
Redevelopment Authority
(A separate legal entity)
The Authority's members are
appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council and it works closely
with those officials in the performance of it's duties.
Length of Term: 5 Years
Number of Members: Seven (One
member is from the City Council)
Meetings: Fourth Tuesday of the
month and/or as posted.
The Authority reviews and makes
decisions regarding economic development and removing blight within the
designated urban renewal area. Note that a finding of "blight" was
a requirement for setting up the ERA. The term "blight" has a legal
definition which does not mean that any slum or slum-like area exists.

VOLUNTEER IN YOUR COMMUNITY
|

All Boards and Commissions are appointed
by the Mayor and ratified by City Council. All meetings that are held by all
of the Boards and Commissions are considered to be open to the public and are
posted in advance (24 hours or more) at the designated City posting places.
